Why do we feel awkward when we talk about sex?

What makes us feel awkward and embarrassed when we talk about sex, etc? Especially with the opposite sex? I mean, when we talk about the respiratory system, digestive system, etc there's no weird feeling. But when there's the sexual reproductive system... Why is there automatic tension? What makes us feel this way?
